Biography

Company Commander
Major Matthew D. DeCarli

Matthew D. DeCarli is a native of Pasadena, Maryland.  In 2009, he enlisted and reported to Lima Company, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Parris Island, South Carolina to attend recruit training.  Upon graduation, Pvt DeCarli transitioned to Marine Combat Training and attended the Enlisted Supply Basic Course aboard Camp Johnson to become a Supply Administration and Operations Specialist.  In 2010, PFC DeCarli then reported to his first assignment with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment.

PFC DeCarli began his tour with 2/6 as a Supply Admin Clerk and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10-2 to Marjah, Afghanistan in 2010 where he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal.  Upon returning from deployment, LCpl DeCarli was promoted to Corporal and assumed duties as the Supply Administration Chief.  

In 2013 Cpl DeCarli transferred to Headquarters Company, Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion aboard Fort Meade, MD.  Here, Cpl DeCarli was promoted to Sergeant and assumed duties as the Supply and Logistics Chief, Medical Readiness Chief, Funeral Honors Coordinator, and Battalion Colors Sergeant.  Sgt DeCarli applied and was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) and attended and graduated Officer Candidates School in 2014, subsequently transferring to The George Washington University Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (GWU NROTC) in 2015 where he pursued and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland at College Park.  

After commissioning in 2016, 2ndLt DeCarli served as the acting Marine Officer Instructor for GWU NROTC before attending The Basic School and follow on MOS training at the Signals Intelligence Officers Course (SIOC) at Dam Neck, VA, becoming designated as a Signals Intelligence/Ground Electronic Warfare Officer in 2017.

At the end of 2017, 2ndLt DeCarli transferred 3d Radio Battalion aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay where he served as Platoon Commander for 1st Platoon, Alpha Company.  In 2019, 1stLt DeCarli deployed as the Detachment-14 Officer-in-Charge, Marine Detachment Philippines, in support of OPERATION PACIFIC EAGLE-PHILIPPINES.  During this deployment 1stLt DeCarli and his platoon provided signals intelligence collections and analytical support to a Special Operations Task Force (SOTF).  Upon re-deployment, 1stLt DeCarli served as the Executive Officer for Alpha Company, 3d Radio Battalion.

In mid-2019, 1stLt DeCarli was transferred to the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) where he served as a Northeast Asia Watch Officer, providing Indications and Warnings (I&W) for pacing threats within the INDOPACOM Area of Responsibility.  In 2020, he was promoted to Captain and transferred to China Division where he served as an analyst and Projects Officer for the C4ISR/EW Branch.  Additionally, Captain DeCarli served as the Executive Officer for the JIOC's Marine Detachment.

In 2021, Captain DeCarli was transferred to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion aboard Camp Schwab, Marine Corps Base Butler, Okinawa, Japan to serve as Battalion Intelligence Officer and Battalion Security Manager where he led transformative efforts to expand and operationalize the Intelligence section supporting real world forward collections operations and Joint Task Force level operations planning.

In 2024, Captain DeCarli transferred to the G2, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC), aboard Camp Smith, HI where he served as the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance officer in charge (OIC), managing the USMC theater collections assets as part of the overall USINDOPACOM collections strategy.  In 2025 he was promoted to Major and currently serves as the G2's Deputy Plans Officer, incorporating intelligence planning into relevant theater contingency plans.

Major DeCarli holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland at College Park.  He is also a distinguished graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School DEP, a distinguished graduate of the MAGTF Intelligence Planners Course, a graduate of the Command and Staff College DEP, Advanced Maneuver Warfare Course (Intelligence Tactics Instructor) and U.S. Army's Basic Airborne Course.

His personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of third award), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 3rd award).  

Major DeCarli is married to Amber DeCarli and they have five children:  Emma, Evan, Anna, Mila, and Ila.
