Major Daniel P. Grant
Major Grant received his commission from the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Cornell University in May of 2010. Upon receiving his commission, Major Grant attended The Basic School, Infantry Officer Course, Scout Sniper Unit Leader Course, and Ground Intelligence Officer Course.
In February of 2012, Major Grant reported to the 3rd Marine Regiment in Kaneohe Bay, HI. From March 2012 to August of 2013, he served as the Assistant Intelligence Officer for 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines and deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Following deployment, he served as the 3rd Marine Regiment Targeting and Collections Officer until March of 2015. While at 3rd Marines, he participated in multilateral exercises RIMPAC, COBRA GOLD, BALIKATAN, and SSANG YONG.
From March 2015 to November 2017, Major Grant was assigned to the Intelligence Directorate, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific. While a member of the G2, he served as the Intelligence Planner for the Korean Theater of Operations and the China Family of Plans. In this capacity, he organized and participated in six bi-annual exercises in the Republic of Korea and organized two Service-level staff talks with the Korean Marine Corps. He was selected for the Foreign Area Officer (FAO) program in 2017.
As a member of the FAO program, Major Grant attended the Naval Postgraduate School, Naval War College, and the Defense Language Institute. He received the Naval Postgraduate School's Marine Corps Superior Service Award, graduated with Highest Distinction from the Naval War College Command and Staff Program, and completed a 48-week intensive language program in Vietnamese during this time. In 2020, he assisted the Defense Attaché Office in Hanoi, Vietnam prior to the COVID 19 Pandemic.
In August of 2020, he reported to the Marine Corps Information Operations Center (MCIOC) as the Regional Officer in charge of INDOPACOM support. While at MCIOC, Major Grant served as the Command's Information Planner for INDOPACOM, and liaison to Joint Task Force - ARES at U.S. Cyber Command. In 2021, he was selected for temporary assignment to Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC), Marine Special Operations Company Lima (MSOC L). From January to August of 2022, he deployed as the Information Warfare Officer for Special Operations Task Force 511.2 in support of Operation PACIFIC EAGLE, Republic of the Philippines. Following the deployment, Major Grant returned to MCIOC where he served concurrently as the command's Staff Intelligence Officer and the Regional Officer in charge of INDOPACOM support.
In July of 2023, Major Grant assumed command of Company I, Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion.
Major Grant holds Master's Degrees from American Military University, Marshall University, and the Naval Postgraduate School. He is a 3/3 Vietnamese Linguist. His personal awards include two Department of State Meritorious Honor Awards, four Marine Corps Commendation Medals, the Armed Forces Service Medal, and the Philippines Military Civic Action Medal. He and his wife Michele are the proud parents of two children, William and Danica.
